About Us

Our mission

Empower Girls Through Jazz

Founded in 2022, The Girls’ Jazz and Blues Society (TGJBS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young women—especially from marginalized communities—through music education, performance opportunities, and leadership development. Serving the greater Sacramento area, TGJBS provides instrumental training, jazz history, mental health workshops, and industry education. Our programs include our flagship summer camp, year-round ensembles, and community workshops.

Our Youth Music Program

At TGJBS, we believe that music transforms lives. Our youth programs are designed to inspire girls through jazz and blues, fostering creativity, confidence, and leadership from a young age. We provide hands-on instruction, mentorship, and performance opportunities that nurture a lifelong love of music and empower the next generation of women in the arts.

Our Three Pillars

Learn and grow

At TGJBS, music is our starting point, but growth goes far beyond the stage. Through camps and year-round opportunities, girls build skills in jazz and blues while also developing confidence, creativity, and resilience. They learn to express themselves, and connect with the rich cultural legacy of the music they play. Our community supports them in discovering their voices—as musicians and as young women—while inspiring a lifelong love of learning, growth, and self-expression.

Landscape of Modern Jazz

TGJBS is more than a music program—it’s a movement. In a genre long dominated by men, we create a space where girls can claim their place in jazz with confidence and pride. Our community celebrates their voices, supports their growth, and shows them they belong on stage and within the history of the music they love.

Get involved

Support our programs by volunteering, donating, or attending upcoming camp and band performances. Your involvement helps us keep music education accessible for all girls and continues to nurture the talented young women shaping the future of jazz.

Vision

We envision a future where young women—especially those from marginalized communities—are not only participants, but leaders and innovators in the world of jazz. Our goal is to see them fully represented in music spaces where their voices, stories, and talents are celebrated. Through our programs, we strive to uplift over 100 girls each year in the greater Sacramento area, providing them with consistent access to high-quality music education, leadership development, and personal growth in an environment designed by and for women.

Together

Join TGJBS’s youth music initiatives and help girls grow, lead, and shine. In a women-led environment, we cultivate leadership, support, and advocacy for girls in jazz.
